About Us

Amputees in Motion is a non-profit organization for people with limb loss interested in activities in the greater New York area. AIM's goal is to participate with existing organizations to strengthen the limb loss community.

Mission Statement

Amputees in Motion's mission is to encourage people with limb loss to benefit from an active lifestyle since the loss of a limb can increase a sedentary lifestyle and/or cause secondary issues.

In the summer of 2005, Amputees In Motion started before anyone even knew it. A few of the founding members of the organization participated in various amputee related activities like a sail trip off the coast of South Shore, New Jersey, a beach trip to Margate, New Jersey, and a tennis clinic in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Memories were made, friendships were formed, and new sports were learned. On the drive home from the sailing trip, the need for a more organized group of active amputees became more evident, so that more could participate and enjoy the physical and mental benefits, and with that, Amputees in Motion was born!

In 2006, AIM formed a board of directors, advisory board, created a website, and started planning events. "We're extremely excited to start Amputees in Motion," says Jeremiah, Founder/Executive Director. "There is a need to create an organization where people with limb loss can practice or learn new sports while inspiring others, discuss new technology, and build relationships while having a blast. We look forward to producing and participating in many upcoming events!"
